Small-business owners from the region gathered Saturday to discuss how rising insurance costs are hurting their businesses and to learn how proposed national health care programs would affect them.
"We want to draw a spotlight to small businesses in Maine," said Phil Bailey, organizer of the event.
The No. 1 concern for Maine's small-business owners is health care costs and how to provide coverage for all employees, he said.

PHIL Bailey was born 25 June, 1980 in Inverell, New South Wales.
He started his league career with the Inverell Hawks before making an impact in the NRL with first the Cronulla Sharks and then Manly-Warringah and the now defunct Northern Eagles.
A tall rangy player of almost 6'2" Bailey is known for his work-rate and soft hands and often proved a handful for opposing sides across the NRL.

State Sen. Brad Hutto of Orangeburg says he's not running against U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint because he's happy where he is now.
"That is true, I am not running for Sen. DeMint's seat," the Orangeburg Democrat said.
The New York Times recently quoted South Carolina Senate Democratic Caucus political director Phil Bailey as saying Hutto had decided not to challenge DeMint, a Republican.

By adding five new churches and an additional week to is Winter Relief Emergency Shelter Program, organizers at Arundel House of Hope art trying to avoid something they did last year - turning homeless people away.
"We were sheltering 35 people and turning 36 away," Winter Relief Director Phil Bailey said.
"We had to do that for the first five or six weeks. This is so important, sleeping out in your overcoat, on the grounds is pretty painful and dangerous."

Gov. Mark Sanford blasted a state Senate subcommittee investigation today and the investigation's leader, Sen. David Thomas, R-Greenville.
